Cheeseburger Cupcakes - A Tutorial

Yes, I'm back with my tutorial for these super fun cheeseburger cupcakes you all loved so much!

For another fun snack idea check out these flower garden parfaits or this no-churn chocolate ice cream recipe!

First, I want to note that this is not a recipe, but only a tutorial on how to turn your cupcakes in to mini cheeseburgers.

You will need to following things first:
1 box yellow cake mix & added ingredients
1 box chocolate cake mix & added ingredients (I used devil's food)
2 cans frosting (maybe grab an extra for backup)
food coloring (I used Wilton's for candy molds and also the cheap liquid kind)
decorating tips and tool (mine was a super cheap on from Target I think)
sesame seeds, sugar, and brush
sharp knife
all the other essentials for baking cupcakes: cupcake pan, liners, oven :)

These are the 3 tips I used.
From left to right: Lettuce, cheese, and ketcup.

Bake your cupcakes as directed and once cooled, cut your yellow cupcakes in half to make the bun.

Then cut the tops off your chocolate cupccakes to make the burger. Some of mine were fatter than others. Experiment with the size you like.

Mix up your frosting colors in seperate bowls. I used the wilton's candy mold dye for the red and green but for the yellow I found that I like the softness that the liquid drops gave it. Add color a little bit at a time until you get the darkness you want. Red is really hard to get dark enough, but do the best and trust me when it's put together they won't be looking at just the "ketchup".

Dab a little bit of frosting on the bottom "bun" and place your "patty" on top.

Using your "cheese" tip outline where the cheese would be. Make sure it's far enough to the edges to show when you put your top on. You don't need to worry about filling it in, nobody will see that part.

Then add your "lettuce" using a swirly tip like the one I showed earlier.

Lastly, squirt a little "ketchup" all around. Making sure the leave a little bit over the edges so it's seen when the top is replaced.

Place the bun on top of your cupcake.
Now, if that's not cute enough on it's on, we're going to up the cuteness factor just that little bit more!

Create a sugar mixture. I used 1/8 cup sugar, 1/4 cup warm water and mixed it well.

Use this sugar mixture to wet the tops of your buns and then immediately sprinkle them with sesame seeds. Don't worry, you won't even taste these! You can't even tell you're eating sesame seeds but they really add to the look of the finished cupcakes!

And viola! Fun cheeseburger cupcakes!

Have them at a summer BBQ, office picnic, or neighborhood block party! I guarantee they will be a hit!

My husband took them to work and for the first few hours people actually thought they were little hamburgers but as soon as he let it out they were really cupcakes, they were gone lightning fast!

Blizzard, Cookies {RECIPE}, and Four Christmases.

Hello, hello, hello!!!

It snowed all day yesterday AND all night last night. "Blizzard like conditions"! When we woke up this morning the temp was 4 degrees, with a windchill of -17, winds up to 30+mph, and 12 inches of snow! Can we say "brrrr..."

Jack Frost paid us a visit.

Here are some of the pics from the snow day yesterday:

So much snow that my husband couldn't even get the sled to go, it kept getting stuck!

I stayed inside most of the day and made yummy snacks! I had some random stuff in the cupboard and decided to make chocolate covered pretzel sticks (with sprinkles for fun)

Perfect combo of salty and sweet.

Harley wasn't a fan of the chin deep snow, I'm sure he was cursing us for bringing him to this frozen state, when he could be toasty and warm in Southern Georgia!

This picture doesn't even do real justice to what our backyard really looks like!

That snowbank is almost as tall as me. It's at least a good 4 feet!

Yep, that's our driveway!

Looking out from the garage.

Last night I was in the mood for cookies so I baked these yummy Classic Oatmeal and Chocolate Chip ones. They were a new recipe that I had never tried before and they turned out better than I hoped! I thought I would share the recipe with y'all! (That's right I said y'all!)

 Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
2 3/4 cups oatmeal
2 cups chocolate chips

Cream together the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy. Add Baking soda, powder, and salt and mix. Add flour, oatmeal and chocolate chips. Mix until combined. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

I'm calling them my Oatmeal Choco Blizzard Cookies! :) Posting this recipes reminds me of when I lived in England and I used to have a website to keep all our family and friends up to date with what was going with us and post pics etc. I post a weekly recipe on there. It was fun and I might do it again. I love, love, love to cook and bake so it wouldn't be hard for me to come up with yummy recipes I could share.

Also, I saw this yummy Cresent Chicken on Carrie's Blog and thought it looked so good, that I wanted to try this out. This recipe is from Whatever... (go check it out!) It iis so simple and easy, and I had all the ingredients (there are only 5!) in my kitchen already! Thanks Carrie for posting about this!!

Last night we enjoyed an extra night together. As I mentioned before, my hubby works nights so we only see each other at nights on the weekend. We enjoyed the snow day as a family and then after the little one went to bed we snuggled up on the couch and munched cookies and sipped hot cocoa and watched Four Christmases.

SOOOOO funny!!!! I was laughing all the way through this movie! I was laughing so hard at one point that I couldn't breathe and had to rewind to see what go said while I was struggling to catch my breath!

Preview:

Have a lovely Wendsday everyone! I'll be back soon with a survey and snowflake pictures!

Happy, Happy FRIDAY!

Yippee! It's Friday!!!

The weekend is only ONE day away! I love Fridays, tomorrow I actually get to see my husband! With him working swings (3pm - midnight usually) it's hard to get much time together during the week. To surprise my hubby, last night I baked my "famous poppy seed bread". Everyone that tastes it, is always begging me for the recipe, but it's a family secret! I make it every year for family and friends and it goes AWESOMELY with coffee or egg nog! I thought, what better way to kick of my December baking (so many things I want to bake for the holiays), but with my yummy poppy seed bread.

Also, on another note, I'm very excited about Happy Mail! I recently signed up to be part of this fun project. Everyone loves getting and giving surprises in the mail, and I can't wait to see who I got! Jamie from Inspired Mess (check her out) created this. Basically you give your all your info, what you like, where you live, what you do for fun etc and she matches you up with someone. Then you send each other a letter/card in the mail, and a small package! I'm super duper excited!!!

If you think you might be interested, feel free to check it out and sign up!

I'm off to enjoy my coffee and a slice (or two!) of my poppy seed bread! Happy Friday!!
