No, not my blog...we are literally moving! YAY!
This is some of the stuff I've been dealing with. I've know about this for a couple weeks now, but was hesitant to share it yet.
I'm so excited to say that the Air Force is moving us to Germany! WHAT!!!! How awesome is that?!?! GERMANY!!!
I have to admit, when I first heard the news it came as a shock. My husband called me and told me he had good news and bad news.
The bad news: Our paperwork for Offutt AFB (where we are now) as our base of preference didn't go sent through. Since my husband is training to a new career field, he knew there was a possiblity we could be stationed somewhere else, but we were hoping to stay here and most times if you request to stay, if they can the Air Force will try to let you. Saves them money and having to move you. Unfortunately, someone didn't do their job and our paperwork to stay here was never processed.
The good news: We got notification we are getting assigned to Germany (Ramstein)! A real shock! After the initial annoyance at the fact that we are moving and having to sell or rent our house, I got really excited! We were lucky enough to get stationed at RAF Mildenhall (England) in 2004 for 3 years. That was our first base, we moved there as newlyweds. We loved living overseas and we both had agreed that if the chance came up again we would love to move back to an overseas base. We just didn't think it would happen this soon!
I'm slightly stressed because not only is my husband away but now I have to deal with what to do with the house. Sell or rent? Now is not really the time to sell. The market is horrible and we don't want to loose money. I also have to get everything ready for moving overseas, a big overtaking. We have lots of stuff that we are looking into getting rid of so we are downsized some. European housing is MUCH smaller than American housing. We've already been told most German houses don't have closets....great...
We are only allowed to take 2 pets, and 1 car and as always we have a weigh limit on our stuff we can take.
What do we do with all our stored baby furniture etc that we have left from Ariana that we wanted to use for our second baby? I hate to get rid of it but I don't know that in our new house we will have space to store it.
But, we are VERY excited to be moving to Germany! Rich is already learning German, gotta love Rosetta Stone! I'm waiting on my CD to come in the mail so I can start learning too! I love living abroad and learning new cultures. I'm excited to get to travel again. When we lived in England we visited 10 countries (Belgium, France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Germany, Malta, Austria, Ireland, and Scotland). I'm so excited for all our new adventures and getting to share all this with Ariana!
We are moving in September! SO much to do before then!
GERMANY!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWOW! That really is big news :) I think it would be so exciting, but stressful to move overseas. My husbands best friend is in the Air Force too. He was stationed at that base in Germany for two years and they loved it. His family got to travel to so many wonderful places. They also said that the area is so full of Americans that it wasn't a huge culture shock, so I guess that is good news.
ReplyDeleteWell, congratulations and I hope you have such a great time there. Keep us all updated :)
that's exciting!! You'll work out the logistics, it's worth it I'm sure :-)
