Deployment: one month down...

One month down, too many more to go.

Things I've learned so far during this deployment:
- I stay awake as long as possible because hate sleeping alone in a cold bed.
- Taking out the trash is my least favorite chore of his (thanks for always doing it babe.)
- My heart skips a beat when I hear someone sign in on Skype. It's almost never him.
- I've had to dispose of 2 dead mice that died by the steps that lead down into our basement. It's gross.
- Friends help the days go by faster, but the aloneness still lingers.
- I like listening to the book he recorded for Ariana as much as she does.
- Being sick makes you miss them more.
- A "long" Skype date can keep you on cloud 9 for the rest of the day.
- Spending anniversaries apart is depressing when all you want to do is kiss them. (Ours was yesterday)
- Helping children through deployment can be very challenging at times.
- Cooking for one and a half isn't as much fun.
- I miss his touch, especially his kisses.
- Playing football on the TV makes me feel close to him.
- People will ALWAYS tell you they know how you feel. (Unless they've had someone close who has been deployed, they do not.)

  1. I have no idea how you feel, except thru your words. I want you to know that I thank your husband for his service to our country...and I thank YOU for sharing him with us, and all that YOU do to make it possible.

    God Bless,

    Kathy

  2. Oh, I am so sad for you that you feel so alone. This cannot be easy.
What a great idea to record Ariana a book! I hope that the rest of the wait goes by as quick as it possibly can, and that you have lots of support around you.

  5. One month down is better than no months down... (Yeah, I know... not what you want to hear, but a girl's gotta try.) I'm so sorry you're dealing with this now, and I'm praying it goes by fast for you. I can totally relate to your list, and it makes me dread our next impending deployment around the beginning of next year. Hang in there girl! You've got a lot of people thinking about you!

  6. My heart goes out to you, and you're right, I can't imagine even beginning to know how you feel. I complain so much when my husband goes out of town for a few days on business, and then I remember all my friends whose husband's are, or have been deployed and I really just have to tell myself to shut up! Thank you to both of you and your families for your sacrifices.

  8. Cat, I never had to deal with that with my husband because he had finished his tour by the time I met him. But aside from that, I can empathize with some of your feelings since my husband has been gone for five years. Some days my body aches for his touch.
I know... still he is not with you and Ariana. I pray for his safe return. (I pray for the military every day.) May the knowledge that so many of us appreciate his serving be of some comfort to you. God bless you and your family.
