Sunset Run (SOOC + EDIT)

I took this photo of a guy and his dog going for a sunset run along the North Sea in Holland. We were admiring the sunset and walking along back towards our hotel when I glanced back at the ever-changing sky and saw this guy running. I had literally1 minute to set up this shot and snapped off a couple shots (handheld) as he came into my picture perfectly.

I loved the photo and think it turned out pretty great for a SOOC shot. Especially since I'm not familiar much with taking sihlouettes. But, I decided to play around with editing it in Aperture. I brightened it up and added some contrast, and then I added a little definition to the man and dog.

I asked some of my friends their opinions but today I'm asking you.

What do you think?
Do you like the SOOC or EDIT better?
Which one speaks to you most?
OR would you suggest making other changes?

  1. love your composition, and both photos are beautiful. but if i have to choose, i'd go for the unedited version. love the muted hues.

  2. I love the edit! The blues are beautiful!

  3. It's beautiful. I like them both, but if I had to choose, I'd pick the SOOC. :)

  4. I love your blog...I'm your newest follower.

  5. What a beautiful shot. They are both great. The SOOC pulls the eye to the sunset where the edit pulls it to the man and dog, so I guess it would depend on where one wanted to primary focus as to which one would prefer.
