My Project 64 Photo Book

I made a book.

I sure did and it's lovely.

Here it is in all it's colorful glory! You may remember my Project 64 photography project I completed in 2012. I absolutely adored this project and wish I could find one I loved as much. After I finished it I wanted to a make a coffee table book out of all my photos to document the journey. I used Snapfish and waited until they had a sale on their photo books. I got a pretty good deal.

The hardest part was going through and putting each photo in chronological order. I save the photos by color name so that got a little tedious but other than that I got this done in no time. Plus it was fun to look over my progress and changes in style as time when on. Some weeks were more technical than others and some weeks I was more focused on matching the color exactly.

My book is a 8.5x11 custom cover book. I used the studio theme which kept it a simple black and white and I could change up the photo sizes. Mostly I left my photos big. At the bottom or on the side, depending on the layout, I wrote the color and a little bit about each photo. It ended up being 66 pages all together.

So now I have this pretty coffee table book for people to look at when they come over. I'm sure after a while I'll add it to the bookshelf but for now I'm enjoying showing it off!

Project 64

I can't believe Project 64 has come to an end.

In case you missed project 64, you can check out their blog here, or I can break it down really fast for you. Each week they pulled a crayon from a 64 count box of Crayola crayons. The challenge was to find that color and photograph it each week. Fun huh?!

See all my Project 64 photograph posts including my book I made as well as each post larger and the inspiration behind each color.

My photos were taken with my Nikon D7000 camera and the following lenses - 70-210 zoom lens (great for capturing things far away), 18-105mm kit lens (good for everyday photography), 105mm micro lens (great for up close shots) and my beloved 50mm lens (great for getting that perfect focal point)

If you've kept up with me the past 64 weeks, thank you! It's been fun searching for the colors each week and it'll be a habit that I'll have a hard time breaking. This project has been a great way to capture my surroundings and expand my photography skills.

Project 64 has taken me a long way from when I started.

I've taken P64 photos all around the world:
Germany (around my home, Bavaria, and Berlin)
Florida (Miami and Key West)
Florence, Italy
Paris, France
Prague, Czech Republic
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

I've taken lots of animals:
 2 horses
2 butterflies
sea lion
bird
beetle
ladybug
rooster
and a snail

Fruits and vegetables:
bananas
leek
2 apples
zucchini flowers
and mushrooms

Nature:
moss
sticks
crystals
vines
8 flowers
plants
leaves
dandelion
and the ocean

2 famous walls:
Berlin Wall and John Lennon Wall

And lots of random things:
a map, basket, and a door handle
Ariana and myself
coffee beans, paint, and mouthwash
tea, play dough, and a flag
a bicycle, signs and trinkets
fire, balloons and boardgames
money, popsicles and acrobats
paint, rust, and beer bottles

I can truly say I have loved this project.Project 64 has been an exciting ride. I'm sad to see it go.

If these are new to you, or you want to see my photos larger, check them out by clicking my p64 link for each post and a description about each photo when it was taken.

Thank you to Brooke and all the other ladies who hosted Project 64, and for everyone who played along. I've loved this project!

P64: Violet and Mauvelous

These are the last 2 colors in Project 64. Of course I found both of my colors in flowers. What better way to end the project than with some pretty nature photos.

And lastly Mauvelous. It was such a hard color. I think I found it though in this blooming tree. It was such a hard color to end on.

P64: Granny Smith Apple

I got this shot coming out of the casemates in Luxembourg. The casemates are underground rock passages and caves used hundreds of years ago to defend the city, and this little vine was peeking out, basking in the sunshine. I love how the vine is surrounded by rocks and ends up being the only color in the photo. Nice for a little pop and the rocks behind it give a nice background texture.

P64: Cornflower

We went to Luxembourg for a day trip the other day. That is where I found Cornflower, in the Luxembourg flag. Too bad it wasn't a sunny day, it would have made this shot better. We still had fun though exploring the city and visiting a natural history museum. It's strange to drive into another country without even having to stop or get your passport stamped or checked. It's like crossing state lines back in the US. Luxembourg, Luxembourg was a nice city and only about 1 1/2 hours drive from our house.

P64: Tan

When I was about 12 my Girl Scout troop when horseback riding and I fell in love with horses for the first time. I took on again off again lessons on Casper, Mocha, and others, and went riding with a family friend on a sweet dapple girl named Leia.

Have I ever owned a horse? No. Do I still dream of owning a horse? Yes.

Yes, I still would love to own a horse. Kind of a crazy dream for a girl married to the military moving every few years and living in different countries. I can't imagine the cost to ship a horse back to the states. Maybe one day though. The truth is, I don't know how to take care of a horse. I know general care but not the real ins and outs of life with a horse. And I don't have anywhere to keep it. Plus, horses are expensive. I get all of that. That is why I don't have one. I can still dream though.

We saw some pretty tan colored horses on our walk in Bavaria. I'm linking up my first picture to Project 64. The color reflecting off his coat is just perfect for the color match. I added the other photos just because I love them, with the light on his mane and rimming the whiskers around his nose.

Such a pretty sight with the mountains behind them. What a view!

P64: Red Orange

I recently bought a bromelia plant for our living room. This is where I found my red orange color this week. Kinda neat looking colorful plants. I don't know much about them so I hope I can keep it alive.

P64: Orchid

I feel like I've been a bit lost in my own little world. I'm doing okay though, just keep thinking of things to blog each week and then....never do it. I forgot to link up my picture to Project 64 last week. Here it is anyways.

We went to see Cirque Dreams on base and it was amazing the talent these performers have! Ariana and I loved the acrobats the best! This motion shot turned out pretty dreamy and I'm sure there is orchid in there somewhere. This is 2 ladies on a big ring spinning around, if you can't tell.

P64: Blue Green

I feel like I'm starting to say this every week, but I struggled a bit this week. Found this at the last minute. It's Listerine looking through the bottom at the bubbles, taken with my macro. Not the best, but we'll just go with it for the sake of moving on.

As usual, linking up with Project 64 this week.

p64: Wild Strawberry

Ariana and I had a good time the other day when it was finally sunny for a couple hours. We've had cloudy rainy weather for a few weeks and it was getting old. We played hide and seek and ran around the yard together. Even though it was cold out, it was nice to get some sunshine. Her gloves are Wild Strawberry colored.

P64: Green (fairy)

Have you ever tried Absinthe?
I have.
I love the idea of it, but honestly it's not my favorite thing. Actually, it tastes like someone took a licorice jellybean and set it on fire. Oh and added sugar.

In Heidelberg there is a cute Absinthe shop on a side street. I saw this cute fairy in the window reflecting the green Absinthe sign when we were shopping there. Abisnthe is also known as the green fairy so I loved this.

P64: Silver

The color from this week was silver and I decided to feature this pretty present under my tree. I love the silver writing embossed on it so much!

See other silver entries here.

I'm working hard on a last minute gift in a jar post. I'm hoping I can get it up on the blog later tonight, so be sure to check back. It's a perfect last minute gift for teachers/friends/coworkers! :)

P64: Mahogany

This week for Project 64 you get a sneak peek at a piece of artwork I'm working on.

Music has been a big part in my life these past few weeks. It has inspired me to create some art including it. For this piece I was aging some sheet music in tea to create a certain look when I found this week's color.

P64: Black

Black. I thought, how can I swing this one? And then, I looked over and there sat a black ladybug on my windowsill. BLACK!

I mean at least I think it's a ladybug. I can't be sure though, I've never seen one that looks like this before.

P64: Orange

I'm kind of sad that Winter is coming, because it means it will be harder to find pretty nature photos for each week's color.

This week Ariana and I found these pretty mushrooms in the backyard.
